True Faith!

It's 4 in the morning and why am I awake updating the Zowee Blog and not sleeping? Because some things are just more important than a full nights sleep and listening to New Order while working on a set and props for a shoot tomorrow in the Zowee House basement is one of them!

(a lovely portrait of the ZHouse fireplace mantel, aka Harry's permanent residence)

I'm trying to be more upfront with you, bloggees, I think it's the only thing that will make our relationship work, and I just can't keep this from you anymore, we've got a bunch of really fantastic new shorts coming up in the next months as well as live performances, possible new puppets, (which would be amazing considering we have no monies yet to build new ones yet), tons of new art work and as a fun  little side we're going to do casting, (call our friends over), and have people read for the human parts in the show to see who'll play all of "normal" human beings opposite Jef. We have so many talented, funny friends I am really excited to see what they bring to the characters Adam and I have been working on for the last year. I'm sure it will be a blast, and if our friends are willing, we'll be posting those videos on the site as well.

Speaking of artwork, here's a very, VERY rough draft of Mr. Connectorkit, Jef's dad

To give you an idea of what's going on, Jef Connectorkit's dad, (pictured above), is a furry blue monster who married a human 30 years ago, had Jef, then kicked her out and no one has heard from her ever since.  When drawing up designs for him I remembered I had once read an interview where George Lucas was asked how he came up with all the original character designs for Star Wars. He said every character in the first three movies were combinations of different animals, household appliances, famous actors, so on and so forth. I always thought that was the neatest thing and even though I've made tons of comics and creatures before, this was the first project where I really wanted to make an effort to follow that idea of combining household things with animals, famous actors and anything I can think of. Connectorkit, for example is based on Dr. Teeth, Rip Torn, a blue beetle and this fantastic fuzzy blue blanket I had when I was a kid. Sure, it's not a groundbreaking technique, but I found it fun! Especially since so many characters in the show are things themselves!

Also, the greatest Star Wars moment ever? Let me know what you think because I could never choose just ONE moment.

As always

Love

Kevin

PS!
speaking of an amazing combiner of things you wouldnt expect - check out Shaun Tan. His books are beautifully illustrated and heartbreakingly touching. Definitely not just for kids.
